Leaf removal

Fall has arrived in the North Georgia Mountains! Did you know this is the time of year that you need to pay extra attention to your yards and gutters? Fallen leaves can destroy your yard and cause costly repairs to your home. When fallen leaves are not removed from your lawn they cover your grass and block out sunlight and air resulting in turf diseases such as mold and root rot. The weight from the leaf cover can also prevent your grass from growing not to mention it makes perfect conditions for insect infestations to develop due to the moisture and shade. Clogged gutters are also a major problem for your home if left untreated. Water can back up and get into the walls or even be rerouted and come in through the roof sometimes leading to mold growth! Clogged gutters also prevents them from draining properly. In the winter time when temperatures drop water or snow buildup can freeze into heavy blocks of ice which can cause your gutters to pull away from your home. So when the leaves start piling up make sure to remove them as soon as possible to keep your home looking beautiful and avoid unnecessary damage.

How to divide perennials

Have you been looking to expand your flower garden? You might not have to go purchase more plants to do so! Did you know you can expand your perennials by simply dividing them and spreading them out? Fall is the best time to do this as the weather should be cool.

It’s very simple to do:

1- Pick the perennials you want to divide and start when the plant still looks good.

2- To lift the plant with minimal root damage start at the top of the root and dig a trench around the root clump.

3- Gently lift the plant out and keep the roots cool and moist of they are going to be out of the soil for any period of time.

4- Gently divide the plant.

5- Replenish the soil with compost.

6- Spread out and replant your divisions.
